The goal of the Summer Institute is to provide common core and module-aligned training and materials for teachers/schools in movement-based learning strategies in order to boost student achievement, increase physical activity, reduce obesity, and increase the overall health of students.

Math & Movement is a kinesthetic, multi-sensory approach to teaching math that incorporates physical exercise, stretching, cross-body movements, and yoga. The program uses visually pleasing floor mats that allow children to practice basic skills while using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning modalities.

INSTRUCTORS

Suzy Koontz is an educational consultant, an actuary, a former math teacher, founder of Learn Thru Movement, Inc. and the Math & Movement program and the author of numerous books. Her current work includes the development of the National Math Foundation, a non-profit whose mission is to “stomp out” math anxiety. The goal of the Math & Movement program is to lead students through a series of movement-based learning exercises that result in mathematical competency and confidence!

Suzy’s work has been featured in television, radio and print. She is a national speaker at schools, conferences, and PTA/O events. Suzy lives in Ithaca, New York with her husband and four daughters.

COST: The registration fee for the Math & Movement Summer Institute is $495. The fee includes the training and books but does NOT include housing.
